About Daile

I love photography. During my career in the Fine Art Photographs industry, I’ve handled hundreds of thousands of photographs, as VP of an auction house, curator of museum exhibitions, and author of four books. My latest venture, Daile Kaplan Appraisals, Art Advisory & Brokerage Services specializes in photographs collections and archives and photobooks libraries. As a certified, USPAP-compliant appraiser, I’ve completed reports for donation, insurance, estate planning and business purposes. I’m a member of the Appraisers Association of America and have served on its board of directors.

As photographs expert on P.B.S.'s Emmy-nominated tv program Antiques Roadshow, I’ve seen the full gamut of art, documentary and family or vernacular photographs, with other tv segments on The History Channel,  Discovery Channel, HG-TV, Plum-TV, and City-TV (Toronto).

My passion for all things photographic has resulted in exposure in national media outlets, including, The Wall Street Journal,  The New York Times, The Financial Times, Forbes, Newsweek, Departures, New York Magazine, Gothamist, The Los Angeles Times, Art & Antiques and Cigar Aficionado and www.designobserver.com.

Objects from my collection of 3-dimensional decorative and functional objects enhanced with photographic images – for which I coined the term “pop photographica”—have been shown in American, Canadian and European museums and photo festivals. The Rijksmuseum (Amsterdam) will host a huge American photography show, in 2024, which will feature many fun examples of pop photographica. Stay tuned!
