After I began collecting 3-dimensional decorative and functional objects enhanced with photographic images, I coined the term “pop photographica” to describe this new genre, which is a kissing-cousin of vernacular photography.
For fifteen years, I have been photographs expert on P.B.S.'s nationally-acclaimed, Emmy-nominated tv program Antiques Roadshow. My focus is the special experiences associated with fine art, documentary, vernacular, or family photographs. I have also been a commentator about photography for The History Channel, The Discovery Channel, HG-TV, Plum-TV, and City-TV (Toronto). And, I have an amazing day job as vice president and director of photographs and photobooks at Swann Galleries, New York's oldest specialty auction house, where I am also an auctioneer.
My passion for all things photographic has resulted in interviews, profiles, or quotes in numerous media outlets, including The Wall Street Journal, The New York Observer, The New York Times, The Financial Times, Forbes, Newsweek, Departures, New York Magazine, Antiques Roadshow insider, Gothamist, The Los Angeles Times, Art & Auction, Art & Antiques and Cigar Aficionado.
